It's hard work bein' lazy
Does anybody remember (Tete, Loky?) the short science fiction story about the guy who was so lazy he put a huge amount of effort into his plan to get by being lazy? He became tremendousy successful on his way to laziness? I ask because I've been spending alot of time lately trying to figure out how to get the dishes clean without washing them, or even touching them, if possible.

LOL!
kai jau TAI darysi, naugok muila - plauti bus lengviau tikrai.
vaje!
turetu buti "naudok muila" - taisausi pati nelaukdama pagalbos su situo reikalu.
i already tried using soap! i came back six HOURS later, and the dishes still weren't clean!
Paprastai muilas neveikia be kieno nors pagalbos.
kaip manai, kas as veikiu virtuvej po vakarienes? - ziuriu kaip muilas darbuojasi?! lol
It wasn't a science fiction story, it was the report I got at one of your parent-teacher conferences in about 5th or 6th grade. I was told you put more effort and creativity into your excuses for not doing stuff than it would have taken to do the assignment.
I believe i know what short story you are talking about, but i don't remember the name. It's not that he is lazy though, it's that he is incredibly weak. So he invents some sort of gloves he can wear and then with very small efforts he can control different sets of mechinical hands to do all sorts of tasks, and eventually everyone starts using them. Although for everyone else it is hard work because you need to use such small movements and precise control.
that's not the one loky, but thanks for trying. in mine he was definately trying to be lazy. i gotta look through whatever heinlein and asimov collections i got.
my favorites are the wallace and grommit shorts where the guys inventions not only seem extremely complicated (creative) for what they accomplish (make toast), they often don't work.
or inspector gadget.
but i think your dishwashing problem can be solved in one of five ways:
1) rinsing - this is my preferred technique. A rinsed bowl of cereal can be reused (within a reasonable timeframe)
2) soaking - a kugelis caked pan can be soaked in hot hot water with liquid soap for your approximation of six hours and then just rinsed.
3) not doing them - this is the only way i can think of doing the dishes without doing them. i'm sure special lady is a fan of this one.
4) teleportation ray - this one doesn't really count since you can't really do it now. but in a few years, when you're done with your meal, just zap a whole pile of plates with your teleportation ray, and voila, the residue is teleported to the garbage, the insinkerator, or what the hell -- to the garbage dump-- or MARS!
5) dishwashing machine - you'd still have to touch the dishes, but you wouldn't have to wash them.
i guess i didn't mention it this time, but the dilemma was that i was home alone for a few days. when i'm not, #3 is clearly the only option. as much of a feminist as i am, i still can't get over the fact that chainsawing is man's work, dishwashing is woman's work.
