The point is that the White House invited the top 20 world leaders to talked about how bad the global financial crisis is and the menu includes, besides quail and other delicacies, $500 bottles of wine. Obviously they got a bulk discount and maybe bought it several years ago when it would be considerably cheaper, since it's only a 2003, plus I found it online for $170-270 but okay, good point. Here's my point: if you want to impress upon people the gravity of the crisis, instead of Shafer Cabernet they should serve Schaefer Beer!

Not likely. This happens all the time. A few years ago there was a big international summit on global hunger. They were spending thousands of dollars a person on 12 course meals with various delicacies from around the world. This of course caused an outcry. So at their next summit they cut it back to 7 courses. They made a big show of not spending so much money, but were still spending hundreds of dollars a person. At somepoint you would hope they would learn their lesson, but they are funded by tax payers so they can piss money away without care.
